The Dhaka Stock Exchange – DSE (ঢাকা স্টক এক্সচেঞ্জ), headquartered in Nikunja, Dhaka, is one of Bangladesh’s two stock markets; the other being the Chittagong Stock Exchange. In 2021, the total market capitalization of businesses listed on the Dhaka exchange exceeded $68 billion. DSE and Nasdaq announced their alliance in trading technologies in January 2023.

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) is a limited liability corporation. It is established and administered in accordance with the Company Act of 1994, the Securities and Exchange Commission Act of 1993, the Securities and Exchange Commission Regulation of 1994, and the Security Exchange (Inside Trading) Regulation of 1994. This company’s issued capital is Tk. 500,000, which is split into 250 shares priced at Tk. No individual or organization may purchase multiple shares. According to the stock market norm, only members may purchase shares for themselves or their clients on the trading floor. Currently, there are 238 members. The Dhaka Stock Exchange’s market capitalization reached approximately $9 billion in September 2007 and $27.4 billion on December 9, 2009.

The management and operation of the Dhaka Stock Exchange are delegated to a board of 25 members. Twelve are elected from among DSE members, while the remaining twelve are picked from other trade associations and relevant organizations. The CEO is the twenty-fifth ex officio board member. Professor Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam, who teaches banking and insurance at Dhaka University, has been chosen head of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission by the government.

The Dhaka Stock Exchange is open for trading from Sunday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. BST, with the exception of Exchange-declared holidays. During the month of Ramadan, the exchange is open from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

This stock market features a total of 625 listed companies.
